Summer "No Name" Info

We've got the cure for the Summertime blues!

Our popular session-ending "No Name" Tournament will be taking place on Saturday, September 18 at Side-Pocket Billiards, and all APA players are invited to attend.

This event will be an 8-ball Scotch Doubles tournament with a maximum team skill limit of 11. Find a great partner whose company you enjoy and be at Side-Pocket when the doors open at 9:00 a.m. The tournament will start at 10:00 a.m.

A Captains' Meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m., and the Summer session awards will be available for pick-up at the pool hall.

The entry fee is a mere $8 per person ($16 per team) and it's guaranteed to be a fun time, so mark it on your calendar.

We hope to see everyone there!

"Captain Appreciation" Winners

The first-ever drawing for our new "Captain Appreciation Program" took place at Side-Pocket Billiards on Thursday, August 6.

League operators Mike and Carol Konak presented $100 to each of our three winners:

  • Kathy Elliott, captain of Sunday 9-ball team "The Titans"
  • Mac Nielsen, captain of Tuesday Artisans team "Devil's Rejects"
  • Sabrina Spokes, captain of Wednesday 8-ball team "That's How We Roll"
Our next drawing will take place in the Fall session.

Thanks to our captains for all they do, and congratulations to our winners!

Fun Day - Player Appreciation Tournament

Bruce Morrison and Jon CurtisOur 2010 Fun Day – Player Appreciation Tournament was a huge success after 44 players paired up for a blind draw Scotch Doubles 8-ball tournament full of fun and surprises.

With a total of $440 in prize money up for grabs – $220 from entry fees and $220 added – the players quickly adjusted to playing with their new partners and to playing with not one, but TWO cue balls on the table! The tournament also featured games of skill and door prizes. Each player who participated received an APA t-shirt, a plastic mug, and free pizza.

Casey Merrell and Tami DeveauxThe big winners of the day were Jon Curtis and Bruce Morrison – they split the top prize of $150. Way to go, guys!

Second-place winners of $120 were Tami Deveaux and Casey Merrell. Good shooting!

Third-place honors and $80 went to Dale Brenner and John Bosserman, and Lerrian Allbright and Johns Rigsbee took 4th place and $50.

Dale Brenner and John BossermanOur 5th-place finishers were Mike McDowell and Andrew Robishaw, and Bill Dixon and Charlie Pernot. Both teams received $20 each. Congratulations to all of our top finishers!

Many players earned cash prizes by participating in games of skill, and three of our players won restaurant gift certificates: Keith Sawh ($50 Carrabba's), Roni Ovens ($50 Applebee's), and Bruce Morrison ($25 Carrabba's).

Mike and Carol would like to thank all of our Fun Day participants and all the rest of our league members for making the APA of Pinellas one of the best leagues in the nation!

A Brand New "Appreciation" Program

Our team captains work hard for their teams and for the APA. We’d like to show just how much we appreciate them by holding a special "Captain Appreciation" drawing each session.
