What is a Top Gun?

Each session the league office keeps detailed records of players' wins and losses during league matches, including the number of Top Gun points earned by the players in each division.

Your Top Gun points are determined by your opponent's skill level. For example: if you play a SL6 in a regular match and win, you earn 6 Top Gun points. If you play a SL3 and win, you earn 3 points. If you lose, you earn zero points.

At the end of each regular session, a special Top Gun patch is awarded to the player who has earned the highest number of Top Gun points in his or her division for each tier level. Additionally, all session-ending Top Gun winners and runners-up (players with the 2nd-highest number of points) in each division of each tier level will receive an invitation to compete in the next annual Top Gun Tournament. (Runners-up do not receive a Top Gun patch.)

If, at the end of a regular session, the top finisher and the 2nd-highest finisher in a division have both already earned an invitation to the next Top Gun Tournament, the invite will go to the player who finished the session with the 3rd-highest number of Top Gun points.

The tournament is usually held in November, where the Top Guns from the preceding three sessions compete against each other in their respective tier levels to determine who is truly "The Best of the Best." Top Gun Tournament winners from the previous year's tournament also receive an invitation to participate in the next Top Gun Tournament and defend their titles.

You must be a current, active player in the format in which you have been invited to compete in order to participate in the tournament. It is the responsibility of each invitee to maintain his or her eligibility for an upcoming Top Gun Tournament.

All Top Gun Tournament winners receive a beautiful Top Gun trophy to commemorate their achievement, along with the prestige of being known as a Top Gun.

Top Guns should not be confused with MVPs, who are chosen at the end of each session based upon highest win percentage on the team, or by team vote.
