What is a Top Gun?
Each session the league office keeps detailed records of players' wins and losses during league matches, including the number of Top Gun points earned by the players in each division.Your Top Gun points are determined by your opponent's skill level. For example: if you play a SL6 in a regular match and win, you earn 6 Top Gun points. If you play a SL3 and win, you earn 3 points. If you lose, you earn zero points.
At the end of each regular session, Top Gun patches are awarded to the players who have earned the most Top Gun points in their division for each tier level. Session-ending Top Gun winners, along with the players who finish second in Top Gun points in each division for each tier level, receive a special, invitation-only slot to the annual Top Gun Tournament.The tournament is usually held in November, where the Top Guns from the preceding three sessions compete against each other in their respective tier levels to determine who is truly "The Best of the Best." Top Gun Tournament winners from the previous year's tournament also receive an invitation to participate in the next Top Gun Tournament and defend their titles.
If a player achieves Top Gun status more than once during the Top Gun qualifying period, the next-highest player in the standings (who has not already received an invitation to the Top Gun Tournament) will be invited to compete.
You must be a current, active player in the format in which you have been invited to compete in order to participate in the tournament. It is the responsibility of each invitee to maintain his or her eligibility for an upcoming Top Gun Tournament.
All Top Gun Tournament winners receive a beautiful Top Gun trophy to commemorate their achievement, along with the prestige of being known as a Top Gun.
Top Guns should not be confused with MVPs, who are chosen at the end of each session based upon highest win percentage on the team, or by team vote.
